Yes, it does lure the target into spending more. Here is a trick that shows how brands lure you into buying a product at a discounted price while still making you pay close to the original price.
So, here is what they do. Is it manipulative? Yes. But is it interesting? Also yes.
If the actual price of a product is $40, they may list the price as, let’s say, $50, and then give a 10% discount. This makes the customer feel like they are getting a massive discount without realizing that they are still paying close to the original price.
